the sort that makes you say "holy crap, that was awesome! " with a big smile on yr face. :D

it's sorta like the avalanches crossed with 'wichita linesman' era glen campbell. it's very, very good. :D

It sounds like "Since I Left You", but sampling 60s she-pop, 10-year old kids in the bronx having a block party, and The Mc5 (or any garage band) drumming.

I think the drumming is live actually.

It's great - however i don't think it's put together with as much love and care as the Avs ... maybe there was a lower budget though, it does sound very low-fi.

But there is NO WAY this guy hasn't heard the Avalanches, he's got the whistle sounds and crowd cheers and sad strings in there, all Key avalanches ingredients. And in that interview he said he was more interested in the melodies than where the samples actually came from... hmmmmm where have I heard that before? :)

when all is done and said its stilll a great track. "Ladyflash" check it out.
It's their debut release apparently and the ep is called Junior Kickstart.

Well i'll be the critic here and say I didn't think LadyFlash was all that. It didn't really do anything for me. I can see the skill in the craft, but I think musically its pretty lacking. I def want to see where they are going with this, but I think you guys are over hyping this track... imho.

Of course after the avs, i refuse to settle for anything less. They set a standard that is hard to meet.

EXACTLY.

spot on adrock :) Avs set the bar pretty damn high.

but it's still good ... Ladyflash hits the 'happysad' button just right i reckon.

the 12-inch (orange vinyl), 7-inch and CD single are available for cheap at opalmusic.com.

of course, i couldn't help mice elf and ordered a bunch of other stuff at the same time, so it's not so cheap overall ...

Doing my budgetary thing for the recent home-buyer, it should be pointed out that whilst the vinyl was £4.99 in HMV, the CD single was only 99p..... Purchased, needless to say!

FWIW I don't think they're close to the Avalanches.... I kind of hear it as a happier version of the Free Association.....

at the risk of giving away trade secrets ... i ordered the polyphonic spree Soldier Girl 12-inch (with the rjd2 remix), the ulrich schnauss A Strangely Isolated Place double vinyl, the Grandaddy Sumday double vinyl, the new Radiohead 12-inch and the Dizzee Rascal 12-inch.

and last week i ordered from rough trade the freelance hellraiser single I Want You to Know.

ahh i've already got that i really like the death in vegas remix but not sold on the rjd2 one at all, to me it spoils a very beautiful song

& cheers for the shopping tip simon but i don't do cd singles! it's orange it's vinyl it's my idea of heaven!

i ordered the new gonzales album z, a couple of his older stuff - uber alles LP & a spanish red 7" that i've been trying to get on wax for a little while & the man with the movie camera - cinematic orchetra DVD... so much for trying to save cash!

ah, it does have to be the instrumental version though.
the one with the vocals left in is funny once ('listen to what he's doing there!') but wears thin quickly.
