apologies if this has been brought up before, but anyone know about Cut Copy, from Melbourne?

read about them on this site, http://www.groovedis.com/newreleases.asp, and it says they're label mates of the avalanches. listened to the sound samples and kinda like em.

it says they were ahead of their time and didn't get the attention due. anyone know how old this is? are they talking years ago or months ago?

i don't know about 'ahead of their time' but the ep probably was a bit overlooked... can't remember when it came out, mighta been late 2001?

'live' was my fave off it, fun party track.

I think GirlThursday was the resident Cut Copy expert, wasn't she ?? :)

They had some super rare 7"s out or something, and their EP is super cheap. so i guess it's a super buy.

super :)

haha cptn. but yep, i have nearly all their stuff, and there isn't much of it :)
the cut copy ep was released september 2001 and unfairly overlooked, yes. you can get it on 10" double vinyl on rex - there is one song that is exclusive to the vinyl, and also one that's on the cd but not the vinyl. so i have both :D.

there's a nice downtempo track (their first release - it's called 'hundertwasser') on another rex 10", the second 'fish out of water' ep. the only other thing i have is a 7" called 1981, but i lent that to somebody and never got it back. i don't have the lino remix they did - don't really like lino! (plus i'd forgotten about it til i just checked the modularpeople cut copy minisite. anyone know if they've done any other remixes? the modular site is hopelessly out of date)

they currently have a dj residency at the, ahem, bimbo lounge (hate the name of that place!). they supported dexter and kuya at one thing i rmember... dexter played out 'glittering clouds'(my obsessive memory for anything avalanches related scares me sometimes!). but yeah riko, check them out!

lino auger well rmx:

on a somewhat unrelated note, has anyone heard the new pnau single w/kid creole & the coconuts? i liked 'sambanova'. i haven't heard this song but i haven't heard anyhting good about it so is it worth a download? or just hope the album is an improvement? :?

... It's not as good as i'd hoped. It sounds like the Spice Girls "Spice Up Your Life"

It's got a pretty commercial FM sound. Maybe it'll be huge.. but if so it's going pretty slow.

I really liked the Pnau song "journey agent."

Oh, by the way, i could care less about Groove Armada, but i listened to some of their Live At The Wireless and one of their songs sampled BAM BAM by SISTER NANCYY!! This simultaneously endeared me a little more to the band, and pissed me off because they got to it before me. but i felt uber cool for spotting the sample :D hehe.

and over this side of the pond (uk) there's been the ep release & the same two 10" releases of Glittering Clouds & Rendevous (both can still be bought from opal music - might be cheaper??? )

i'll agree on the "unfairly overlooked" tip. i got a copy of "i thought of numbers" to review for my uni mag before i'd heard anything, but i knew they (he?) were linked to the avalanches. it's a great ep, must be about time for a new release too.

re: pnau, i'm sure i've said it before, but everything they've done since sambanova i think has been pretty weak, and una noche kinda continues the trend. i'm hoping the album is a BIG improvement, they've definately got something, but i dont know, they seem to be leaning towards more badly commercial sounding stuff lately.
