everything peal'n'eat just mentioned is fantastic, and the stuff grant mentioned that i've heard also gets my full endorsement!

i'm listening to:
*ms jade album
*trina album
*blueprint 2, which got a really bad rap i reckon
*majesticons
*roxy music
*dillinja & lemon d

i will hold off listing mp3s cos otherwise peal'n'eat won't have any surprises when his cd (finally) arrives.

but i will mention the slimzee wiv dizzy rascal set because roll deep rules.

we like her! she won a major music award (the mercury music prize) last year, and is a bit of a darling with the media too.

she's managed to retain a bit of street credibility despite speaking out against violence (which is sadly not trendy) and having a double-barelled surname and lots of decent school qualifications. perhaps cos she is actually talented?

i'm glad she is well apreciated and still credible!

i took virgin atlantic to get back to the usa on saturday and there was a music channel on the plane that had a little interview of her before they played her song "dy-na-mi-tee". she was saying that she used to be an mc in the uk garage scene, making £20 a show. and when it was time to choose to go to uni she could have gone to any one of her choice.

another good thing i heard was that she donnated her £20,000 that she won with the mercury music prise. so all signs point to yes with this gal!

cant remember who here mentioned it, but someone recommended "son of evil reindeer" by the reindeer section so i went out and bought it. it is a beautiful record! :) :)
everyone must listen to it....

today i'm listening to the new sigur ross album. i think i'm going very mellow because i've also been listening to alot of kathrym williams and beck (sea change) recently.

it must be me but i just can't listen to sea change at all... i've tried quite a few times to give it a go but it just gets on my goat

new sigur ros on the other hand is lovely (nice artwork too)
also recommend new johnny cash album (think i may have mentioned this before?) for some fantastic covers...

i know what you mean about sea change em - it's not as accessible as the wonderful mutations. i keep thinking that if i play it in the background enough it'll seep into my consciousness.... :?

and as for sigur ros - i love the fact there is no name or tracklisting. perfect for me cos i can never remember the name of songs anyway...

Dizzy is attracting a lot of attention at the moment

I only like the 'oriental' remix of I love you...not really feeling most of his tracks

Roll Deep are hyped too but its not my kinda garage

golly, Spiritualized AND My Bloody Valentine get name-checked on this thread? and i thought i was the only closet shoegazer fan round these parts. :D

i listened to the spiritualized live at royal albert hall just last night. had forgotten how great that show is. and i never go too long a stretch without listening to some MBV.

anyone here heard the "Sunkissed" lp by Guitar? if a credible source told me, i could believe it's a new My Bloody Valentine record, albeit with a new singer replacing bilinda. it's highly derivative, yes, but still some good stuff.

other things i've been listening to:

Mixes:

Freddy Fresh - BTTB set from December (highly recommended)

John Peel - Fabric Live mix (almost jellyesque in it's anything-goes approach)

Swampmaster - Slayermix

Osymyso - Wood Mix and Glass Mix (from BTTB in September)

BC10 mix (MUST remember to put that in my soulseek shares)

Freelance Hellraiser - 45 Special

David Holmes "Free Ass" mix promo (looking forward to the live Free Association set on Breezeblock next week)

singles:

Mantronix - various 12-inchers I dusted off

RJD2 - Good Times Roll Part 1

Idris Muhammad - Foxhuntin'

Treva Whateva - Singalong

i also played my vinyl copy of Since I Left You the other night. had been a while since i'd listened to that, on record or CD. almost forgot how great it is -- and how different the LP is from the CD.
