Ok.

So numerous times and places I've seen people reference a connection between the Avalanches and Soulwax. I know a few people who have refered to a certain mixes as Avalanche/Soulwax influenced.

So, I got a couple of Soulwax albums and I'm baffled as to the connection here. Other than the track '2 Many DJs' (which I thought was an album by the way some people talk about it) I'm not really hearing much DJ influence.

What am I missing? What the hell is the connection here? Are there some shared band members? Am I missing some crucial DJ set or live show?

2 Many DJs is an album.... it's also a track on their album 'Much Against Everyone's Advice'. The one we're interested in is the album one, 'cos, other than 'Conversation Intercom', 'Much Against Everyone's Advice' isn't very good.

You could download all the tracks off '2 Many DJs' to experience the god-like genius of the Dewaele Brothers, or you COULD search out a copy of their 'Hang the DJ' radio set they did on Christmas Day on Radio 1 last year.... it's basically a 2 hour '2 Many DJs' (are you keeping up? ;) ).

Anyway, get that, you'll see.... honest.... :D

Soulwax are the same guys as 2 Many dj's
Soulwax is more a 'rock-guitar' band
2 many dj's are just dj's
2 many dj's is a track on a soulwax album indeed
but you can't compare soulwax to 2 many dj's
much against...is a soulwax album, so more rock, so it isn't really a dj/mix album
As heard on radio soulwax is an album by 2 many dj's so it's a mix album

2 many dj's are cool
but they always do the same thing on their shows...

I don't think that's very fair.... I've seen them a couple of times now, and heard a few of the radio mixes and I've got 2 Many DJs. They actually seem to have a much broader repertoire than most comparable DJs, and vary their shows a lot more often (compared to, say, Dexter's recent tour seems to have consisted of the same set at all venues....), with a few common elements (Dolly/Royksopp is a big crowd pleaser, and I think there would be unhappy punters if they didn't play Vitalic too....

I think Soulwax/2 Many DJs/Fucking Dewaele Brothers are pretty much interchangeable....

have to agree with Simon here

I was lucky enough to see them four times this year and all sets were different, particularly their residents set in Gent (before 2manydjs came out), but yes i think vitalic got played out every time (not a bad thing! :D )
