as you must know by now, i'm a big fan of madlib and mf doom so when this guy dropped both those names i thought i'd better check his album out, and i wasn't disappointed.

his style fits somewhere midway between madlib and doom - he samples similarly oddball sounds to doom but also has some of the 'buttery slickness' of madlib. the more i listen to this album the more i love it... he samples reggae/ska, 80s soul, classic soul, tv shows, sugar public service announcements, his own children... and the first sound on the album is windows 98 booting up. (somewhat disconcerting when you're listening for the first time on mp3)

check out

'audio s(ect)s';
'antemeridian' (and the follow up track 'postmeridian');
'blues for percy carey' (dedicated to mf grimm who's currently serving a life sentence)
'quite buttery' (featuring mf doom)
'no time for fakin(part 2)'
'take control'

it's a warmer, more laid back sound than 'the unseen' or 'operation doomsday'. fans of slum village, dj spinna, and maybe even blackalicious should check it out.

ok not the last one after all.

he rhymes "automatic like the sandbox" in ohio players - he seems to be quite dedicated to the internet. keeps an online journal on his site + he is quite active on his own message board.
