It's been so long since the release of Australian cut-and-paste collective the Avalanches' immaculate 2001 debut Since I Left You that a proper follow-up seems like some sort of fantasy. Latest rumors have the new album coming out early next year, but while we wait, Modular are planning a two-disc Since I Left You reissue.

The redux features the original album and a bonus disc that includes unreleased early B-sides and demo tracks, remixes from El Guincho, MF Doom, and Black Dice, along with Avalanches remixes of other artists, and more. For now, Modular's offering an old remix of Since I Left You's title track from Stereolab; check it out above. There's no release date for the reissue just yet.

There is nothing positive in this news, whatsoever - new remixes smack of Modular desperation (might be convinced otherwise if they release some of the live sets promised years ago).

That's pretty glass half empty old boy. You need to get into some craig david remixes and remember good times in melbourne.

Avalanches Since I Left You gets deluxe re-issue
The Avalanches seminal debut Since I Left You is set to get the deluxe treatment with a 10-Year Anniversary issue in the works.

The reworking was announced just hours after the record came in at #9 in triple j's Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time. The record also took out the top spot in the industry list a few weeks back.

According to the group's label, the re-issue will feature "the original classic album accompanied by a bonus disc of material including remixes from the original album campaign, new reworks from the likes of El Guincho, MF Doom, Canyons, Black Dice, Jackson and his Computer Band, some exquisite Avalanches remixes of other artists, plus unreleased early b-sides, demo tracks and other such rarities."

triple j caught up with The Avalanches' Robbie Chater recently to chat about the release where he mentioned that part of the reason their long-awaited second album is taking so long is "because the re-issue has been quite an involved process."

" We're trying to make a really special bonus disc to go with it which will include a lot of the remixes we've done for other people over the years plus a lot of other great new remixes we've got done of Since I Left You tracks. And then I'm loosely mixing everything together into a journey that will complement the album. It will be 2-discs that are hour long mixes."

"It's been quite a big job and it was supposed to be a 10th Anniversary re-issue but in true Avalanches form it's a year late so it's going to be a an 11-year anniversary re-issue. It does feel nice to tie it up with this re-issue and then move forward."

And as for the new album?

"I think we'll get a couple of singles out this year but the album will be early next year I think."

Details surrounding the release of the re-issue and other info is expected to be announced soon.
