I think that must've been fairly recent although, let's face it... none of us checks the MySpace very often...

Still... who knows, could be good news. Positivity kids, positivity...

On The Avalanches' timeline, that's a mere blink of an eye... ;)

maybe finishing finishing touches refers to mastering for cd/vinyl (or printing copies of them), where as previous finishing is just final cut/tracklisting of the album? Haha, I'm being way over optimistic here I'm pretty sure.

OK, this is second hand but my buddy (who first put me on to the avs way back in the day) heard on JJJ that they new avs album is slated for RELEASE in July.

this may just be another false start, but the have such a definite timeframe spilled on JJ is heartening.

Didn't hear the JJJ mention ...

but I called that last year!! i would be very surprised if the album's not out for the English summer. I'll put money on it.

In other words, the UK will get any / all promotional material and visits first.

love Penny

July thats not far away at all. Hopefully they can make the Big Top set and other mixes on their website become available before then. So we can get a little bit of new Avs before the Monster hits.

Now, maybe its just me, but if the release date is truly within 90 days of release, shouldn't we be hearing some buzz or seeing some articles or something? After 10 years, it seems there would be some pre-album hype building other than the fans on this forum. I generally take Penny's word as gold, so i am just wondering when we might start to see some buildup here?

Yup, if the release was within 90 odd days there would be more hype by now about it, maybe even leaks ;) But who knows, they could announce details tomorrow for all we know.

i'll hope for the best. lots of favorites are releasing new stuff this year - pet shop boys, saint etienne, royksopp, prefuse 73...

i've been amused/amazed at how fast stuff leaks and how much of it is just a google search away, but a leak of new avs stuff would truly be the mother of all leaks.

it'd be so amazing to be able to spend summer 2009 listening to a new avs album.

Cozmo (et al)!!!

Kind words! although I'm confident, it's still just a guess ...
Keep in mind:

-the Avs as we know are fickle, and could push things back further..
-they are very 'anti-hype.' Although SILY was eventually covered ad nauseum by the press, that fever was definitely generated BY the press, not Modular .
- Record companies now have accurate ways to trace leaks and get people fired pretty quickly for spoiling major releases (the guy who leaked AC's album) so I think leaks if any, would be much closer to release date.

just food for thought ! :)
xo, Pen

Another mention about Un-named Album No.2 on JJJ this morning - Zan Rowe's show - where she was speaking quite confidently about the July release after playing the Paperclip People remix of A Different Feeling.

Interesting point that Penny makes as well - when SILY was released, the media drove a lot of the hype that grew after its release, esp internationally.

Now assuming things unfold as we all hope and there is actually a new release in a few months, I wonder if this time around that role will be taken up more by the online community (blogs, forums etc) rather than the "traditional" methods of promoting (radio, print, TV)?

Part of me will be just as interested as to how they manage the release of information between now and then! (But I'm a bit of a nuffy about communication strategies and the like so I could be in a minority of one on this board on that front!)
:P

OK, so April is now here.....this better be a pretty poppin 90 days...we are already one season down! I have yet to see more than the band's webmaster saying it will be a "good year". There are still promised sets and tracks from the "new temporary" site from 2 years ago!? When do we get rolling, boys?!

My money is on another few years. There has been so much hype saying "it will arrive on Christmas day" and previous times of speculated guesses.

Until something is officially announced I don't want to get my hopes up (for about the twentieth time) and will assume it will always be at least be the year after the current date.

Well if the album is being released in July, it's not too surprising that we haven't heard much about it yet since most other July releases haven't been announced either. If you look up lists of upcoming albums you'll see July as being fairly empty.

That being said, if the album is being released in July, there's a chance we'll hear something about sometime near the end of this month.
