NME.com has reported on this change to the status on The Avalanches' myspace page

http://www.nme.com/news/the-avalanches/38540

Can we start getting excited now? :)

I believe that the status has been as such for quite some time.

But hey 08.08.08 is coming up very shortly.

and reading another NME article; i had no idea that when darren broke his ankle he jumped off a 20ft speaker stack. that would have been a pretty intense gig.

ha, yeah, i read this on the nme site yesterday and nearly posted it here. pretty funny really, i wonder if they just sat in the office going through random artist's myspace pages looking for something they could write about because it was a slow news day?!

Pitchfork also reporting the reporting of the second album (in other words, repeating the NME which is repeating Myspace).

Still, nice to have a small frisson on a Friday! The words"Avalanches" and "second album" certainly leapt off the screen when I popped by Pitchfork for a visit.

Anyway, we live in hope . . .

If nothing else, it might force Modular into actually saying something... or Clint for that matter... ( ;-) )

Steve Pavlovic, AKA "Pav", AKA head of MODULAR RECORDS, said in a JJJ interview this week that The Avalanches have promised to personally deliver him their new album on Christmas Day this year.

He also said that they'd probably scrapped two or three albums of material, and that they had been trying various experiments before eventually deciding "who are we fooling? let's just make an Avalanches album."

If they made so much material, I hope they release some kind of extra cd with the better stuff that they got rid of.

so... i imagine "pav" lives in australia. any forum members want to park outside his house on xmas day + do surveillance?

bonus points if you can mug the band and steal the cd and leak it here, so we don't have to wait another year for samples to be cleared.

i hate to put a dampner on the good news, but i'm with lossless. if they hand the album to the label head at christmas, then I would estimate about another year's wait for sample clearance.

only a mashup of different mixes but never heard of this:

Quote:
After the Goldrush
In 2008, a mix CD appeared by The Avalanches titled "After the Goldrush". The album is a mashup of 42 songs in different styles and from different eras. The inside cover includes a mini-history of the band and announces that this album "fills the gap for all of The Avalanches junkies out there, a mad mix of eclectic musical inspirations pieced together in a totally unique and off the wall way, it shouldn't work, but it does in a bizarre way that only these antipodean mavericks know how... And remember, The Avalanches wouldn't give a 'castlemaine for X' for anything else." There is a small picture of the band that sits behind the CD. There is no booklet and no credits for the songs or the band aside from the notes in the inside cover. Copies are scarce but can be found in rare record stores, several online outlets, and eBay.

Hope this time the cd won't be scratched

AVALANCHES IF YOU ARE READING THIS, PLEASE USE VERBATIM CD'S WITH DOUBLE PROTECTION, THEY USUALLY PLAYS EVEN WHEN SCRATCHED :!:

And thanks to everybody for the news, as it seems,

THAT AVALANCHES THEMSELVES HAVE COMPLETELY FORGOT US :(

I doubt The Avalanches even know we exist.

The website, and the files we download from it are products of Modular and the marketing rather than anything else... when they think they've got something to sell, we'll see some activity on the website.

I can only assume that when the site got rejigged, and the list of downloads posted, they thought they were close to having a new album, so the wheels started turning...

Patience, as ever, is a virtue... :)
