So i saw a note that the Avs' Myspace page had new music posted...went over to check it out. Hmmmm. Where it once had the tagline "Putting the finishing touches on album 2.0" it now just says "Official Myspace page"....the band summary is gone, the tracks are old, the picture is the cover of SILY and its the only image on there....in other words, bare bones & kinda lame. How depressing. I had really high hopes a year ago when the "temporary" site went up...but now the waters seem more still than ever!
Oh, Avs - surely you have a leftover mashup....an odd mix set....a sound byte sampler...a studio pic...a video clip...anything to let us know you are alive and well???

seconded

- by my count it has been about 7-8 months since there was any actvity on the main site.

Is this the calm before the storm?

Can we have the big tent set?

or some news?

or a nod and a wink?

or anything?

going by past experience this may just be the calm before the calm.

i think the term glacial is a good one to apply to the avalanches

They should change their name to the glaciers instead of the avalanches.... wait that name is taken I think. ;-)

That Grrilla step thing looks cool too.

The best thing to come of looking at this thread today is that GroovyPanda's recently listened to music thing had raconteurs songs that i hadnt heard of - the new album came out on the 25th, so i found out. Sweet!
(whats it like groovy Panda?)

Also a studio pic would be really cool. It must be about time someone reburnt that scratched bigtent Set CD and had it uploaded too.

I was a big fan of their first album but not so sure about this second one. It only came out yesterday so haven't really given it enough time yet but it seems to be a move away from the pop-rock of the first lp into a louder rock-out sort of territory and also sounds a lot more White Stripes than the first album - there also doesn't seem to be many hooks or choruses in the songs this time round but perhaps it's just a less immediate album and will get better with more familiarity...

wikipedia update:

Quote:
Inactivity
The lack of updates and activity on the band's main page has led some to begin questioning the status of the second album as well as the status of The Avalanches altogether. There was at one point a brand new mix scheduled to be uploaded, The Big Tent, which has not yet appeared on the page. The forum has seen its share of speculation and questioning as to when or if The Avalanches will be producing any new music. The last album The Avalanches produced was the critically acclaimed 'Since I Left You' in 2000.

That is Wikipedia at its worst.

We've been told that an album is nearly done, but that there's no timeline for release. Why doubt this information? What basis is there to suggest this is a lie?

Why would (presumably) a fan include the speculations of a few people in an 'encyclopedia' entry? It only perpetuates the myth that "nothing's happening".

These are my views, anyway. I'll bet that the band had Clint (or whoever) remove the myspace line "putting finishing touches..." because it was generating premature press requests, industry speculation, rumours etc... while they just want to get the thing done.

The Wiki entry is otherwise good but the section on SILY seems really bloated.

Love, Penny - (with attitude today, sorry)

p.s. and i think it's time to remove that Pavarotti thing from the main page or replace it with something new
