is there any word anywhere about whether shadow's shows are still not very good?

He wasn't great at splendour when i saw him last, and I heard mixed stuff about his last appearance.

he and cut chemist together is pretty nice though

I have listened to the hard sell and have to say it's very different from brainfreeze and product placement.

As I understand it, the hard sell is supposed to more of a demostration as to what you can do with supreme skills and ingenuity - ie. stickers on 45s rather than a sampler, guitar pedals rather than an effects unit.

There is still a splashing of funk breaks, but it is much more of a down tempo exercise. I like it though.

i've listened to the hard sell a couple times. they recreate several sample-based tunes, including stuff from beck's "odelay" and de la soul's "three feet high and rising." it's technically impressive and a fun enough listen, but i'd rather hear them do something new and creative rather than remake what others have done before them.

You can only assume that dexter has been inspired by the avalanches own prolific output!!!

well, the hard sell was absolutely brilliant. the recorded set is not a patch on the live performance, which was much more up tempo and funky.

dexter was actually pretty disappointing. he played a pretty run of the mill set and appears to have gone digital (serato, not cds). Anyone else go?

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by the hard sell as well. Thought it was really good. That said, there where some lulls, and it wasn't a cohesive set as they skipped along from one genre to another but I am glad I went.

As for Dexter, I enjoyed his set. He did a great 5 to 1 doors bit and some classic funk/soul tracks. Possibly played a bit too much NWA and that kind of hip hop, but again I enjoyed it.
